Proud to be a Top-Performing
Medical Center in Chicago — and the Nation
A new health-care quality study shows that patients can expect outstanding care across the board at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center. Patients can count on an extraordinary team of doctors, nurses and staff who are committed to excellent care — with excellent patient results.
Here's why.

The medical center ranks among the top 5 percent of U.S. hospitals based on inpatient mortality and complications rates, according to the recently published eighth annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality and Clinical Excellence Study.
As a result, the hospital earned HealthGrades' Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award™, and recognition for nine other clinical achievements. The medical center is one of only seven hospitals in the city of Chicago and 22 in Illinois to receive the award. Nationwide, 269 hospitals earned this distinction.
What does it mean?
Hospitals in the top 5 percent consistently performed better across 26 procedures and diagnoses - from coronary bypass surgery to hip replacement — with lower mortality rates and fewer post-operative complications for inpatients.
The medical center earned five-star ratings, the highest level, in seven areas. In addition, the medical center was recognized with the:

- 2010 Stroke Care Excellence Award™ (among the top 10 percent of U.S. hospitals in quality patient outcomes in stroke)
- 2009/2010 Women's Health Excellence Award™ (among the top 5 percent of U.S. hospitals for quality patient outcomes in women's health care).
Why is this important to patients?
The medical center is among the select hospitals to achieve high quality patient outcomes in a wide range of specialties. Patients can expect the very best care from the moment they arrive here to follow-up care down the road.
